After the high on Tuesday of beating Morecambe, it was down to earth with a bump going down 2-0 at Worksop Town who were the better side overall and fully deserved their win.

Playing into a strong wind in the first half the only real chance of any note for the visitors came when Jordan Slew hit a shot that was well saved by the home keeper after 22 minutes.

Adam Moseley was working tirelessly up front and did go close in first half added time.

Worksop had started brightly enogh and created four good openings but a combination of poor finishing and good goalkeeping by Douglass Lukjanciks in the Southport goal kept the score at 0-0 at half time.

With the wind behind Southport in the second half the general feeling at the break was one of satisfaction and a chance to play with the wind advantage.

That feeling was quickly extinguished after three minutes of the second half when a mistake at the back gave Viggars a great chance to open the scoring and he duly desptached the ball into the back of the net.

A purple patch followed for our hosts who were well on top and only some fine stops from Lukjanciks kept the score at 1-0.

The second goal seemed inevitable and it came on 61 minutes through Redford.

Malakai McKenzie did carve out an opening in second half added time that the ‘keeper tipped round the post but it was not to be and it was another blank away day for The Sandgrounders.
