Southport were looking to bounce back after the poor performance on Saturday at Scarborough but fell to a home defeat against Hereford at Haig Avenue this afternoon.

Manager Neil Danns had said after the game at Scarborough that he was looking for his players to respond and he got a good response but a solitray goal from the penalty spot in the 68th minute sealed it for the visitors.

It was a controversial penalty award which had the Southport players, supporters and management incensed.

A draw would have been a fair result in a scrappy game affected by the wind and for the majority of the game a 0-0 final score looked the most likely outcome.

Southport did create a few openings but a combination of poor finishing and sloppy final balls didn’t see the visiting goalkeeper severely tested unti late on when Malakai Mckenzie stung his palms.

The second controversial moment saw Harry Perritt, making his first start, sent off after 88 minutes for serious foul play.
