Report from Olly Barton.
The Sandgrounders fell to defeat in the North East losing 2-0 to Spennymoor.
A first half that lacked chances saw Spennymoor open the scoring just before half time through Glen Taylor.
The veteran number nine saw a header saved onto the post by the outstretched hand of goalkeeper Chris Renshaw but he could do nothing about the rebound which Taylor blasted into the roof of the net.
Southport had seen the lion share of possession but failed to create chances through the resolute nature of the Spennymoor defence.
The Moors doubled their lead in the 66th minute after a deflected shot from Rob Ramshaw fell into the pathway of Mondal who fired home from close range.
The substitutes for the Sandgrounders looked bright, Sonny Hilton had an effort that was well saved but they couldn’t find a way through past goalkeeper Brad James.
We return to Fa Cup action next weekend as we host FC Halifax Town in the 4th and final qualifying round.
Our next league game will be the long trip to Oxford on Saturday the 18th of October.
