It was an afternoon to forget in Scarborough for a well beaten Southport side that returned to Lancashire on the wrong end of a 5-1 scoreline.

The game started slowly with neither side creating very much in the opening 15 minutes but once the first Scarborough goal went in on 16 minutes it was one way traffic from then on.

The first half ended 3-0 to the home side and in truth it could have been five as the Southport defence looked vulnerable every time Scarborough broke forward.

The second half started badly with Scarborough adding a fourth goal four minutes into the half to make it 4-0.

Teddy Lavelle hit the post on 53 minutes and his effort was followed up by Luke Griffiths to fire home and make it 4-1.

Southport did enjoy a brief spell of pressure but rarely looked like scoring apart from a fine headed effort by Harry Perritt which flashed narrrowly wide of the post.

Scarborough added a fifth goal on 82 minutes and had two glorious chances to make the scoreline even worse both well saved by Solomon Honor in the Southport goal.

To make matters worse Luke Burgess saw red in added time after an altercation with a Scarborough player.
