21. Cameron Ferguson Forward
Cameron arrives following a successful spell with Bala Town in the Cymru Premier. The 23-year-old spent part of his childhood living in Majorca after his father, former Everton and Scotland striker Duncan Ferguson, retired from playing.
On returning to England, Ferguson entered Everton’s academy at the age of nine and remained there until he was 15. He subsequently joined Tranmere Rovers, where former Southport player and coach Alan Morgan was involved in his development.
Cameron was offered professional terms by Tranmere but instead accepted an opportunity to trial with Newcastle United, subsequently earning a three-year contract. His time in the north-east included a loan spell with Forfar Athletic during the final year of his agreement.
A move to Inverness Caledonian Thistle followed, although the club’s financial problems and entry into administration brought his time there to an early conclusion.
He continued his career in Wales with Connah’s Quay Nomads, where an ankle ligament injury kept him out for approximately three months. Following a change of manager, he moved to Flint Town United before joining Bala during the second half of last season.
His period at Maes Tegid brought the most productive senior football of his career to date. Ferguson was named Cymru Premier Player of the Month for March and finished the campaign as both Bala’s Supporters’ Player of the Season and Committee Player of the Season.
Standing 6ft 3in, he gives Southport another physical option through the centre of the attack.
