Matty Williams has put pen to paper to sign for The Sandgrounders today.
A ball playing centre back, Matty signed his first professional contract with Accrington Stanley in 2019 with loan spells at Lancaster City before joining Chester in 2021
From the Chester Website Profile: Matty joined Chester FC in June 2021. A central defender that is comfortable on the ball, Williams signed a professional deal with Accrington Stanley back in 2019 and had separate loan spells with Lancaster City in the Northern Premier League. Following a successful time at the Blues during a Trial Event, we were quick to sign the imposing defender. Williams was equally fast in making a big impact at the club. In his maiden campaign he played 35 times, scored five goals and was named CFU Player of the Season for 2021/22. His progression continued in 2022/23, stepping up in style as a more senior member of the defensive unit. Williams made 44 appearances, scoring three times, and being a part of the best defensive side in the National League North. Williams has now made more than 120 appearances for the club.
Matty suffered a serious knee injury in September 2024 and has been out of action since then.
Welcome to Southport Matty
