Anyone leaving the ground early, and there were a few at both ends, would have got quite a shock when they saw the final score as Southport who looked dead and buried scored twice in added time to snatch an unlikely point in a pulsating finish.
Southport’s first real attempt on goal game in the 91st minute when substitute Daniel Ogwuru found the back of the net. It looked like it would be a consolation goal but up popped Sol Solomon in the 95th minute to grab the equaliser.
Hednesford had looked to be heading for a comfortable win against an out of sorts Southport side and with goals in the 44th minute through Dylan Mottley-Henry and in the 68th minute, when Lenni Cirino was allowed to run through unchallenged before firing home to make it 2-0, they looked to be cruising to a win.
We were left looking on in disbelief but at the end of the day it is the final score that is recorded in the record books and another point on the board much to the delight of the travelling Sandgrounders.
