AFC Fylde 0 Southport 1

Southport progress to the FA Trophy Quarter Finals for the first time since 2013 with an excellent 1-0 win at AFC Fylde.

A goal from Teddy Lavelle in the 86th minute was enough to win the game on an exhilerating afternoon of football.

Southport started brightly and had the bettrer of the first half but couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net and despite the domination it took two great saves from Chris Renshaw in superb form in the Southport goal to keep the score at 0-0 at half time.

AFC Fylde had the better of the second half but with Renshaw looking like he was never going to be beaten the defence held firm and just as the game looked to be heading towards penalties up stepped Lavelle to slot home from close range to send the large contingent of travelling fans into raptures.

Six minutes of added time was shown to increase the tension which was unberaable as the home side pressed for the equaliser but after seven minutes the final whistle blew on a memorable afternoon.

When you bear in mind we only had two outfield subs and a reserve ‘keeper (it was a bit concerning watching Tony Mc warming up) it made the victory all the better.

Man Of The Match : Chris Renshaw but an all round excellent team performance from the makeshift side.

Line Up: Renshaw, Pike (Tabone 59) Collins, Lavelle, Moore, Keane, Burgess, Griffiths, Slew, Gnahoua and McKenzie
