A great afternoon for Southport winning 4-1 and bagging the first three points of the season.

Luke Burgess, captain for the aftermoon grabbed two goals in the 6th and 27th minutes to cap a fine display and pick up a well deserved sponsors man of the match award.

Luke spoke after the game about his pride at being made captain for the game after being at the club since October 2023. His first goal was also the 4000th Non League goal Southport have scored across all competitions since our entry into the world of Non League Football in 1978.

When Bedford pulled a goal back just before half time the nerves did start to jangle a bit but further goals from Jordan Slew, on as a substitute, in the 73rd minute and Teddy Lavelle on 87 minutes extinguished any concerns about a Bedford come back.

The first three goals came about from some slack defending but the fourth was a great finish from Teddy that sent the home fans home happy.
