Chris Renshaw stays with Southport

We’re delighted to announce that goalkeeper Chris Renshaw has today signed a new one-year deal with Southport Football Club, with an extra year option in the Club’s favour.

Having kept 16 clean sheets in the league last season, alongside making 100 total appearances since joining in May 2023, this represents an important piece of business for the club.

Chris also picked up the Supporters Player of the Season award for last season, as pictured above.

Upon signing his new contract, Chris said “I’m delighted to be staying again next season. I’ve spoken to the gaffer and really liked his plans and vision for the team which excited me.

I feel at home here, and all the reasons I joined Southport are still there, this club is good enough to be challenging at the top end of the table and that’s what my aim is. I’m hungry to come back sharp and fit for pre-season to be able to hit the ground running.”

Manager Neil Danns added “We’re absolutely delighted to keep Chris at the Club. He had a fantastic season, keeping 16 clean sheets in the National League North, and he’s really established himself as one of the top goalkeepers in the division.

He was named the Supporters’ Player of the Year, which speaks volumes about his performances and character. He’s local, hungry to improve, and ticks a lot of boxes for us. I’m looking forward to continuing to work with him, especially under the guidance of our goalkeeping coach, Tony McMillan.”
