Young Winger Joins The Port
We’re excited to welcome Rio Alston to the club on an initial one-year deal, with an extra year option in the Club’s favour.
Rio will officially become a Southport player once his contract at Accrington Stanley expires on 2nd July.
The 18-year old starlet joins following a successful two years as an Academy scholar at Accrington Stanley, also gaining experience out on loan at NWCFL Premier Division side Longridge Town last season.
Manager Neil Danns commented “Rio is an exciting young winger who fits perfectly into the type of squad we’re trying to build.
He’s been a full time scholar at Accrington Stanley for two years so knows how hard he needs to work get back up to those levels and has shown me that he’s got a really strong appetite and determination to have a successful career.
We want players who will excite the crowd, make things happen in 1v1 situations and create and score goals – Rio ticks all of those boxes.”
