Manager Neil Danns

Neil joins the club after spending two years as Assistant Manager at Tranmere Rovers.

Following a 20-year playing career, Neil made the transition into coaching and management, being appointed as player-manager by Macclesfield and leading them to promotion to the Northern Premier League as champions before being appointed as assistant manager at Tranmere Rovers in May 2023.

Assistant Manager Mark Duffy

Mark Duffy is no stranger to Haig Avenue where he made 103 appearances in total scoring 19 goals in all competitions.

Mark was actually named as the head coach at Macclesfield following the departure of Neil Danns from Macc and after leaving The Silkmen he had a short spell as manager at Warrington Rylands.

  1. Chris Renshaw (860) Goalkeeper

Player Of The Year for 2024-25, Chris is in his third season with the club and had completed 100 appearances in all competitions for the club by the end of the 2024-25 season. Disappointed not to have joined the short list of “ever presents” last season missing just one game through suspension. Made his debut after signing from Curzon Ashton at the start of the 2023-24 season and has made the number one spot his own.

2 Dan Pike (893) Defender

Initially joined the club at the back end of 2024-25 on a non contract basis and made 7 appearances but impressed and was offered a contract for the 2025-26 season in July.

Dan had been at Dundalk in the League of Ireland Premier Division, featuring ten times before picking up a bad injury after signing back in July 2024.

Prior to that, Dan played for Tranmere Rovers, AFC Fylde & Blackburn Rovers.

 

4 Ted Lavelle Defender

New signing Teddy joined the club in the summer following his departure from FC Halifax Town at the end of last season.

Teddy already has plenty of experience in men’s football, spending time on loan at Colne, Bradford Park Avenue, Lancaster City & Mossley AFC, racking up over 100 appearances in men’s football.

The 6ft 2in midfielder signed his first professional deal with FC Halifax Town in September 2023.

 

5 Tom Moore (879) Defender

Media Player Of The Year (most individual MOTM awards by our media team) for 2024-25 having made the step up from Bury at the start of the 2024-25 season. Scored on his debut and went on to make 50 appearances adding another 3 goals. Wholehearted and committed Tom quickly became a real fans favourite. Appointed Club Captain for 2025-26

6 Luke Tabone Defender

Luke Tabone was manager Neil Danns second signing, following his departure from Cymru Premier side Haverfordwest County.

Luke has featured for the Maltese National Team, first being called up in March 2023 for the UEFA European Championship qualifying matches against North Macedonia and Italy. He made his national team debut as a second half substitute against Greece in June 2024. Luke came through the youth systems of Nadur Youngsters, on the island of Gozo in Malta, and Burnley. He then returned to Nadur Youngsters in 2018, where he made his senior debut.

In 2023, Luke signed for Haverfordwest County in the Cymru Premier. He was part of a record-breaking side last season, who achieved the Club’s highest points tally in a 12-team Cymru Premier, whilst also qualifying for the UEFA Conference League.

Luke had actually played previously for the club making 2 cup starts in the 2017-18 season.

7 Danny Lloyd (605) Forward

Danny rejoined the club at the end of 2023-24 after an absence of 12 years having been involved in the club’s PASE set up back in 2008 and made 1 sub league appearance in the 2009-10 season as well as having 2 cup starts and he also had 4 sub starts in 2010-11.

Danny went on to play for Colwyn Bay, Lincoln City, Tamworth, AFC Fylde, Stockport, Peterborough United. Salford City, Tranmere, Gillingham, Rochdale and Livingston.

Leading scorer in 2024-25 with 15 goals in all competitions and has made 67 appearances for the club in total

8 Ne-Jai Tucker Midfield

Ne-Jai  featured in our two opening friendlies as a triallist and was soon snapped up and sgigned

The midfielder started playing at the age of 4, beginning at North Village Rams and then ABC Valencia on the island of Bermuda. He moved with his family to the UK at the age of 11, spending a couple of years in the Academy at Manchester City, before later joining Burnley FC U15s. After spending a few years there, Ne-Jai signed his first professional contract at Turf Moor in 2021, frequently appearing for the U23s After a positive season, his extra-year option was activated in June 2022.

Ne-Jai departed The Clarets at the end of the 2022-23 season, with his next club being St George’s Colts, who compete in the Bermudian Premier League. The 22-year old has made many appearances for the Bermuda National Team, scoring his first international goal against Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in 2023.

9 Jordan Slew Striker

The 32-year old joins Southport following his summer departure from Morecambe. Having played for a whole host of Football League clubs, Jordan brings both firepower and experience to our frontline.

Jordan’s previous clubs include the likes of Blackburn Rovers, Rotherham United and Port Vale. The striker broke through Sheffield United’s academy, having joined them at age 11, going onto make his professional debut in October 2010.

Following spells elsewhere in the Football League, including achieving promotion with Plymouth Argyle, Jordan dropped into non-league with Radcliffe, Boston United and Ashton United. However, he made a return to the EFL with Morecambe FC, joining them in January 2020, where he stayed until summer 2021. A two-year spell at FC Halifax Town came after that, where he made 62 appearances, scoring 13 times and helping the Shayman reach the playoffs. Jordan rejoined Morecambe FC on a two-year deal which expired this summer, after making 75 appearances in League Two.

10 Mo Touray Striker

The first signing of the summer. Mo broke through the Academy system at Newport County, before heading out on loan to Merthyr Town. In that same season, he went on trial with then Premier League side Leicester City.

Mo’s standout season came during the 2023/24 campaign, where he finished as Warrington Rylands’ top goal scorer, netting 18 times across all competitions.

He then went onto sign for National League North side Chorley FC the following summer, featuring over 40 times for The Magpies last season, helping them secure a 5th place finish.

11 Malakai McKenzie Midfield

Another new signing in the summer. Malakai is a talented right winger who loves to dribble at defenders and is sure to get supporters off their seats. Despite his young age, he has racked up plenty of experience.

He started out his career at Bolton Wanderers, emerging through the youth ranks before sealing a move to Bury, then Chorley. He then had a stint at Icelandic club Dalvík/Reynir in 2022 before becoming a part of the FC Malaga City Academy, famous for showcasing the top unsigned talents across the globe. Malakai also featured for Avro FC in the 2024-25 season.

12 Aaron Pickles (890) Defender

Aaron Pickles has rejoined Southport for the 2025-26 season on a permanent basis.

Aaron made 14 appearances in the National League North last season for Southport, joining on loan from EFL League Two side Accrington Stanley in January. Aaron’s initial one-month loan ended up being extended until the end of the season, following several solid performances at centre- back.

The 20-year old is a product of the Accrington Stanley Academy, rising through their ranks and going on to make 18 league appearances for Stanley.

13 Tony McMillan (582) Keeper

Tony is our back up keeper. He has made over 300 appearances for Southport since signing, initially, 17 years ago. He is now 43 years old but as keen and enthusiastic as ever and can always be relied upon when he is called into duty.

14 Arthur Gnahoua (892) Forward

Great to welcome forward Arthur Gnahoua back to Southport Football Club on a one-year deal. The 32-year old rejoins on a permanent basis, after impressing in pre-season training. Arthur was part of the squad last season, arriving on a non-contract basis back in February. However, his appearances were limited following an unfortunate eye injury, picked up in our fixture against Farsley Celtic.

We’re delighted to have Arthur onboard for the 2025-26 season, adding experience and firepower to our attack. His previous clubs include Grimsby Town, Bolton Wanderers and Carlisle United.

15 Ben Collins Defender

The 21-year old joins having departed from EFL League Two side Salford City this summer. Despite his age, Ben is not short of experience in men’s football, having appeared for several clubs on loan in the last few seasons.

Ben’s most recent loan spell was at Flint Town United of the Welsh Premier League, where he helped them to retain their league status for the following season. Other loan moves include Clitheroe FC and 1874 Northwich.

Ben has appeared a handful of times for the first team at Salford City, debuting in the EFL Trophy back in 2023, away to Bolton Wanderers.

16 Jordan Keane (880) Defender

The 2024-25 season was disappointing for Jordan who was plagued by injury and was only seen in a Southport shirt on 12 occasions.

Jordan arrived at Southport with a wealth of experience, having made 185 appearances in the National League and 145 appearances in the National League North. His most successful spell was at Stockport County, where he featured 148 times, playing his part in their National League & National League North title victories during the 18/19 & 21/22 seasons, and is regarded as a County legend today.

Prior to arriving at Edgeley Park, Jordan started off at Derby County, before appearing for Stoke City, Lincoln City and Boston United

 17 Rio Alston Midfield

An exciting new signing for 2025-26. The 18-year old starlet joins following a successful two years as an Academy scholar at Accrington Stanley, also gaining experience out on loan at NWCFL Premier Division side Longridge Town last season.

18 Sonny Hilton (884) Midfield

An energetic box to box midfielder who made a good impression in his first season at the club making 50 appearances and scoring 5 times.

Sonny came through the ranks at Fulham and enjoyed a successful Premier League 2 career, captaining his side while making 63 appearances and notching 31 goal involvements. Sonny also made his mark on the international stage, with appearances for England U16, U17, and U19.

19 Nathan Sandison Midfield

Nathan joins the club on an initial one-year deal, with the option of an extra season in the Club’s favour.

The 19-year old arrives at Haig Avenue following his departure from Bootle at the end of last season. Nathan joined The Bucks for a brief spell, having impressed at Nantwich Town earlier in the season. Despite leaving them in March, Nathan was Nantwich’s top assister come the end of the season, setting up 13 goals during his time at the Swansway Stadium.

Nathan is a product of the Wigan Athletic Academy, joining the youth setup there in 2019. He progressed through the system there and was with them until 2024, featuring for the U18s on a regular basis.

20 Luke Burgess (869) Midfield

Attacking midfielder, Luke became manager Jim Bentley’s first permanent signing in mid October 23. The midfielder who has previous experience with Wigan and Salford spent the 2022-23 season at Oldham before a loan spells at Altrincham and Ashton United.

Luke had made 78 appearances in all competitions by the end of 2024-25 and has chipped in with 9 goals.

21 Paul Murphy-Worrell Defender

Paul also joins the club on an initial one-year deal, with the option of an extra season in the Club’s favour.

The 18-year old arrives at Haig Avenue following his recent departure from Blackburn Rovers in the summer. Initially joining Rovers’ U18 squad, Paul progressed through the Academy setup, eventually joining the U21 squad for the 2024/25 season.

Prior to Blackburn, Paul spent several seasons at Liverpool FC, his boyhood club. Having played with Manager Neil Danns’ son Jayden at LFC’s Academy, the Port boss knows what to expect from our newest recruit.

22 Sam Minihan (881) Defender

Sam is in his second season at the club having signed in the summer of 2024 from Buxton A right back with plenty of experience having made close on 200 appearances for Stockport County before joining FC Halifax in the 2022-23 season. A whole-hearted and fully committed player with a never say die attitude.

23 Dana Amaral Midfield

Dana joined the club on an initial one-year deal in the summer, with the option of an extra season in the Club’s favour.

The Mozambique-born central midfielder joins the club following his recent departure from Warrington Town. Having made 16 league appearances for Warrington last season after making the cross-town move from Rylands, Dana has had a taste of National League North football and adds further youthful energy to our midfield lines.

The 21-year old spent the majority of his youth career at Preston North End, playing for the Lilywhites between the ages of U12-U18, before penning a one-year professional deal at Deepdale. In that year, Dana was on the bench for Carabao Cup games against Huddersfield Town and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Dana left PNE in 2023, going on to gain experience in men’s football with Skelmersdale United, Warrington Rylands and most recently, Warrington Town

24 Will Russ (874) Striker

Will, signed a two and a half year deal at the club in January 2024 from Fleetwood Town.

He is a strong centre forward who started out in The Academy at Leicester City before joining Fleetwood at the age of 19. Whilst at Fleetwood he had loan spells at FC United, South Shields, Marine and more recently with Hyde. Has never fully established himself in the first team and is a player we are all looking forward to seeing more of in the Southport shirt in 2025-26. He has made 10 league starts and scored the 1 league goal.

25 Callum Edwards Midfield

The 19-year old signs having spent all of pre-season with the Red Dragons, including going on their tour of Australia and New Zealand, with matches against Melbourne Victory, Sydney FC and Wellington Phoenix.

Callum has been with Wrexham since the age of 10, after initially playing Sunday league. He has seen first hand the change since the transfer of ownership at the Racecourse Ground and speaks about his experience in his interview, which is up on our YouTube channel.

The winger had a loan spell in the Welsh Premier League last season, at Bala Town. He made 11 appearances during his time at Maes Tegid.
