YOUTH CUP | Disappointment

YOUTH CUP | Disappointment

Our youth team exited the FA Youth Cup last night at Irlam going down 4-2.

It was a disappointing night for the lads who despite dominating the first five minutes somehow managed to find themselves 3-0 down after 10 minutes. Southport then got a penalty which was converted by Joel Heaton-Robertson on 17 minutes.

The game seemed to turn in the 27th minute when the Southport lads should have had a further blatant penalty but it was waved away and Irlam went down the other end and scored.

4-1 to Irlam at half time and no denying the quality finishing of the Irlam forwards.

Southport came out and put in a very good second half performance but couldn’t break down the excellent Irlam rearguard. Chances came and went but it was not to be. Even one shot that was at least a foot over the line was not seen by the linesman which would have made it 4-2 to get them back in it.

As it was Southport got a goal back in added time to make the final score Irlam 4 Southport 2.

Thank you to everyone who turned out to support the lads.

The game was delayed for ten minutes due to a bad injury to a Southport player which saw him stretchered off the field with an ambulance having to be called. We all hope he has a speedy recovery.
