Walking Football Team Update

Our Over 60’s Walking Football Team have two teams in action today (Sunday) in friendlies against Preston North End over in Preston.

Next Saturday is the 2nd Round of the Over 60’s FA National Walking Football Cup and we have a tough away draw at Clitheroe Wolves. After a brilliant 3-1 win against Macclesfield in Round One confidence is high and everyone is looking forward to the upcoming games.

If anyone is interested in getting involved with our Walking Football Teams we now have two seperate sessions. Monday’s session is “Strictly Walking” and takes place between 10 and 11 every Monday at Dunes.

The Wednesday Group is a more relaxed version where the rules are the same but it is played at a slighlty quicker pace and this takes place between 11 and 12 at Dunes. This is primarily for anyone over 50 but we can be flexible with the age to allow people returning from injuries etc to have a game however it is not full paced football and comes under the Walking Football remit.

Both sessions cost just £2 per player. Contact our Walking Football Organiser Rob Urwin via e-mail rob@southportfc.net for more details.

Update from Preston : We took two teams and to allow the players playing in the Cup game next week the chance to play together and get some practise playing as a team, we fielded one strong team and one scratch side. The “A Team” won one game 3-2 and lost one 2-1 against a Preston side that fielded a few Under 60’s which does make a big difference.

The B Team put in a commendable effort but were well beaten in both of the games they played, our star German striker, Thomas did grab 3 goals to make the score a bit more respectable.

Thank you to everyone involved at Preston for hosting the games and we look forward to returning the hospitality in the near future.
