TRIBUTE | John Higham

TRIBUTE | John Higham

Everyone at Southport Football Club is saddened to learn that former player John Higham passed away suddenly on February 22nd.

John made 96 Football League appearances between 1976 and 1978 playing in the club’s last ever game in the Football League.

He created a little piece of club history when he became the first Southport player to earn a “Yellow Card”.

One of the few players to stay with the club following our failure to be re-elected, he played 23 NPL games up to January 1979. His contract was cancelled the following month to enable him to emigrate to Australia where he continued to play in and around the Melbourne area.

He has lived in Australia until his untimely death aged 65.

John always had time to talk to the fans and was a hugely popular player at the club.

The thoughts of everyone at Southport Football Club are with John’s family and friends at this sad time.
