The first of our six pre season games ended in a 2-1 win against a strong Preston North End side.

With plenty of new faces on show it was a great workout for The Sandgrounders and manager Jim Bentley was full of praise for the lads after the game.

Southport had a chance to increase the lead with a fine header from Tom Moore, from a Danny Lloyd corner, was cleared off the line.

Preston did come close on a few occasions but a combination of good defending, goalkeeping and some wayward finishing saw the home side able to end the game with a well deserved win.
