We sat down with new summer signing Sam Minihan to discuss everything Southport FC and how he and his new teammates are finding pre-season, as the build-up to the start of the 24/25 season begins.
“How have you found your time so far?”
“It’s been good, I’ve been welcomed into the group and there’s a lot of good lads here, all the new players have settled in really well. It has been a tough couple of days, grafting, we were out on the grass for the first session. The gaffer has outlined exactly what he wants and what he expects from the group.
I’ve gotten a really good first impression from the club, the lads and the staff, it has got a good feel about the place.”
“What have you made of the first two sessions?”
“Tough, there’s been a lot of running, almost back to the old school style, but in a good way. It’s been about finding where the lads are at fitness wise, setting a base line. Today we’ve been on the balls, which has been enjoyable. It’s good to get the sharpness back in the legs. Again, there’s been a lot of detail about what the manager expects from us.
It’s been really good to get to know the lads and take in the surroundings here.”
“Are there any pre-season games in particular you’re looking forward to?”
“All the fixtures are good fixtures, all against big, well supported teams so all of them will be a test, I think the stand out one will be when we go to Belfast, a good experience and a chance to bond with the lads. I think the first one against Preston North End will be a nice one, but overall, I think all the games are good challenges and I can’t wait to get going again and start to build relationships on the pitch. I’m excited to get stuck in!”
Sam’s Message to The Fans
“I think it’s an exciting time for the club, there are big ambitions and expectations here and we will look to fulfil those. The gaffer’s building a squad which I believe can challenge this season, so it’s exciting times and I’m excited to be here.
