REPORT | Magnificent Morgs!

David Morgan continued his excellent run of form as he bagged a hat-trick to help Southport on their way to a 4-1 victory over Leamington at the Pure Stadium.

An emphatic start and a strong finish were enough for Liam Watson’s side to make it four wins in a row in the Vanarama National League North.

The captain was once again in great form, as he led by example to help the side to claim the three points.

It took him only 53 seconds to get things up and running, as Devarn Green nodded the ball down for him to finish from close range.

Down the other end, Charlie Albinson was called into action, making an easy save from a Junior English header.

Southport’s start got even better in the 12th minute, as Brad Bauress slotted the ball in from close range, after the keeper had parried a Marcus Wood shot straight into the path of the winger.

Wood could’ve had a goal of his own, but his ambitious acrobatic effort in the box went over the bar.

The Leamington defence continued to struggle, as a strong defensive block stopped Morgan from grabbing his second, after the keeper was caught off his line in no mans land.

Two the best chances for the Brakes in the first half came to George Carline, but the midfielder failed to put either attempt on target.

Bauress finishes from close range.

The visitors did pull one back three minutes after the break, after Ryan Astles conceded a penalty for a foul on Josh March.

The Striker stepped up and converted, sending Albinson the wrong way to make it 2-1.

Liam Waton’s side did have chances to re-extend their lead, with the keeper saving both a Morgan header and a Raul Correia effort from the edge box.

The captain continued to be Southport’s main attacking force, having one effort deflected on the post, before forcing the keeper into another save.

Finally, Morgan’s persistence paid off, as he got the Port’s third, slotting the ball into the corner via the post to make it 3-1.

Things got even better for the midfielder in the final minute of play, as the Port were rewarded a penalty, which he stepped up with confidence to complete his hat-trick.

Another superb individual performance from the captain helped to secure a 4-1 win for the Port, and fourth league win in a row.
