PROFILE | Former City Stopper

There is probably no better place for the modern footballer to learn their trade than at Manchester City.

In that respect, Charlie Albinson brings to Southport a unique experience, having joined City as a schoolboy before spending 12 years at the Etihad Stadium.

During his time with City, the Bolton-born goalkeeper played in the Uefa Youth League, featured in games such as the U18 Manchester derby and was part of the squad which reached the 2015 FA Youth Cup final.

He signed a professional contract aged 18, also earning the opportunity to train with first team squad and the chance to share the pitch with players such as Frank Lampard and Sergio Agüero.

Albinson joins Liam Watson’s side after two years at Blackburn Rovers, whom he joined in 2017 after leaving City.

Whilst at Ewood Park, the keeper continued to taste success, winning the PL2 Division 2 title with Blackburn U23s a year ago, keeping goal in a team which won 15 of their 18 fixtures. Last season, he represented Rovers six times in PL2 and in seven cup games.

He also spent time on loan, continuing his development with Warrington Town after securing a move last October. This followed a period during the previous season with Ramsbottom United and he has also spent time at Bury.

Albinson played the second 45 minutes of the pre-season friendly against Widnes last night, keeping a clean sheet.
