Southport will be looking to continue their FA Trophy run as they travel to Spennymoor Town this afternoon.
A singular goal from Niall Watson helped The Port on their way to a midweek victory over Marine, to set up this fixture.
Today’s opponents, Spennymoor made easy work of their second round tie against Marske United, coming away 6-2 winners, with six different scorers.
Form has been mixed this season for The Moors, with four wins, four draws and three defeats in the Vanarama National League North.
Glen Taylor has been in good form so far this season, scoring seven times in 11 league games.
The Moors’ striker is one of the most consistent front men in the division, with 17 goals last season, and a golden boot win with 21 the year before.
When the pair met at the beginning of November, it was Spennymoor who came away victorious.
Goals from Adam Blakeman and Taylor within the first 21 minutes, sent them back to the North East with all three points.
Meanwhile, the only meeting between the two sides last season was a comprehensive victory for the Port.
A first minute Jack Sampson strike set the team on their way to a 3-0 win, with Raul Correia and Kieran Glynn getting a goal each either side of half time.
Southport will want to continue this cup run to give themselves a boost before the festive period.
With The Moors inconsistency, it’s hard to judge which way this will go.
