PREVIEW | Take Two

Southport welcome South Shields to the Pure Stadium on Tuesday in a Buildbase FA Trophy replay.

When the two sides faced each other at the weekend, Liam Watson’s side were forced to come from behind to earn a draw.

Despite Jack Sampson putting the Port ahead after 14 minutes, a late Raul Correia goal was needed to secure a replay after the home side had taken the lead.

Former Sandgrounder Jason Gilchrist was on target for the home side, and he returns to the Pure Stadium for the first time since leaving in the summer.

The Port are used to coming from behind in this competition, as a late David Morgan goal in the last round secured a 3-2 victory against Colne.

Meanwhile opponents, South Shields, overcame Stourbridge comfortably in a 4-0 victory.

Last time out in the league The Mariners drew 1-1 at home against Warrington in the Northern Premier League Premier Division.

After finishing second last year, they have continued where they have left off and currently sit at the top of the division with two games in hand.

With 11 wins in 17 games and only three defeats, South Shields have certainly been in excellent form this term as they push for promotion.

After stumbling out at this stage of the FA Trophy last season, with a 1-0 defeat to Solihull Moors, Watson will be hoping his side can overcome lower league opposition at the second time of asking and set up a good cup run heading into the New Year.

A trip to AFC Flyde awaits the winner in the next round.
