PREVIEW | Lions Lair

Southport will be hoping to be inspired by last week’s late equaliser as they look for their first win in four games.

Jordan Archer’s fourth goal since his return to the club, stopped the Port from losing their third consecutive game on the bounce.

The 1-1 draw against Alfreton was much needed for Liam Watson’s side, who have only accumulated four points in the last month.

The opposition:

Today’s opponents, Guiseley, currently sit in the bottom two in the league table.

The Lions have only won once in their last nine league games.

Their two wins this season have come against Blyth, which was a 4-0 victory on the opening day, and Spennymoor, whom they beat 0-2 at the beginning of the month.

With only eight points in ten games, they are nowhere near the form that saw them finish ninth last season.

The men in charge:

Marcus Bignot and Russ O’Neill were appointed joint manager of the Lions in 2018, following the relegation to the Vanarama National League North.

Bignot played for teams including Kidderminster, Oldham and QPR during his playing career, which came to an end in 2016.

During his time as a manager, he has coached teams including Birmingham City Ladies, Solihull Moors and Chester.

Meanwhile, Russ O’Neil previously spent ten years at Alfreton before joining Burnley’s player recruitment department.

Previous meeting:

The only meeting between the two sides last season was a comprehensive victory for the Port.

A first minute Jack Sampson strike set the team on their way to a 3-0 win, with Raul Correia and Kieran Glynn getting a goal each either side of half time.

Final Thoughts:

Whilst Southport are in somewhat of a dip at the moment, Guiseley need a massive boost to get their season back on track.
