PREVIEW | Keep The Run Going

The festive period has been an enjoyable one for Southport with victories on Boxing Day and on Saturday, seeing Liam Watson’s side shoot up the table.

On New Year’s Day, the Port kick-off 2019 with a trip to the Swansay Chester Stadium (CH1 4LT) for the fourth meeting of the season between the sides.

The club have enjoyed a good record against The Blues so far this season, winning twice and drawing once.

When the pair met on Boxing Day, the Port recorded a significant 3-0 win over the Blues, with the team certainly looking upwards in the league instead of down.

At the time of that match the visitors were sitting in third in the table, but have since dropped down to fifth.

The defeat at the Merseyrail Community Stadium was followed by another set back at the weekend, as Chester came unstuck against Hereford, with the Bulls winning 2-0.

This was not the way joint-manager’s Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley would’ve wanted to end the calendar year and will be determined to turn things around soon and get their team back into winning ways.

Forward, Anthony Dudley, will be crucial to that, as he still remains a huge threat and will need to be watched carefully as he looks to add to his eight goals this season.

As for Southport, the focus will be to start 2019 in the same vein that they finished 2018 in.
