PREVIEW | Final Repeat

Southport will look to bounce back from Saturday’s defeat when they host Prescot Cables in the Liverpool Senior Cup.

After the 2-0 loss on the road away to Boston United, Liam Watson will want his side to respond and begin a cup run.

Tuesday’s opponents, Prescot, are familiar faces for the Port in this competition, with the two sides going head to head in last year’s final.

Despite Southport lifting the trophy back in April, it was a far from easy job, as penalties were needed to separate the two sides following the game finishing 0-0.

So far this season season, Cables currently sit in second in Northern Premier League Division One North West, after a strong start to the campaign.

Roy Grundy and Steve Pilling’s side have themselves been difficult to beat, with only one defeat in the opening two months of this campaign.

That loss came at the end of August, and they have since accumulated 15 points in seven games.

Confidence will be high heading into Tuesday’s cup game following back to back victories in their last two games, with a 3-0 win over Widnes and a 2-1 win over Clitheroe.

Despite that the Port still head into this game as firm favourites against their league opponents.

After enjoying great cup success last year, another run in this competition is certainly on the cards again.
