Meeting with Youth and Juniors Committee

Meeting with Youth and Juniors Committee

Yesterday evening Director James Treadwell held a meeting with members of the Southport FC Youth and Juniors committee, to discuss the important role the Youth and Juniors have in the future of the football club.

There was a full and frank discussion of some of the shortcomings in the way the youth section has operated largely independently from the main club in the past and there was a clear desire for change from all parties. As part of a wider strategy recognising that attracting supporters at an early age is the best way of building a loyal supporter base for the future, all present felt that the youth and juniors have a major role to play in doing this. James will help the committee to work through any current barriers to success that they face.

Over the past 6 months the committee and the volunteer coaches have been working together with the local and national FA to develop a club philosophy which will be used to clearly state our aims, mission and values as a charter standard Community club. James was impressed with the work undertaken so far and has given it his full support and backing as it is rolled out this summer.

Within the professional development phase of the club all parties share a desire to see more home grown talent taking that next step up to the first team. James discussed how Mark Wright will be able to assist Head of Professional Development Cameron Foster and his coaching team to do this.

Their work will begin in a week’s time with open trials being held for the U17-U21 squads. The trials take place at JMO Sport’s Park in Skelmersdale on 6th and 13th June. To register your interest in attending please email
