INTERVIEW | Zehn’s Goals

Zehn Mohammed is confident that Southport can continue their improved run of form as they prepare for Saturday’s visit to Boston United.

The Port are currently unbeaten in five games, winning four, as they have climbed to ninth place in the Vanarama National League North and progressed in the Emirates FA Cup.

Mohammed has scored in the last two games, heading in the crucial opening goal against Blyth Spartans before putting Southport in front as they came from behind to beat Scarborough Athletic last weekend.

The on-loan Accrington Stanley defender has featured regularly for the Port during the early part of season after returning following his time at the club last campaign and he is keen for the good run of results to carry on.

“My personal goal for the season is to get as many games as a I can and try to keep clean sheets as a defender, he said.

“It’s a bonus if I get a goal. As a team I think the play-offs is a more than reasonable target and we should be trying to push beyond that to be up there with the top teams at the end of the season.”

Mohammed scored the second goal in Saturday’s 5-2 victory, latching onto a Reagan Ogle throw in to head home his second goal in seven days after also netting the week before.

He has featured at right back and in the centre of the defence and is happy to make a contribution at both ends of the pitch.

“I feel brilliant because you don’t really expect to be scoring a lot as a defender but I’ve got in the right areas,” he added.

“Liam has told me to stand in the six yard box rather than taking a run up and ever since I’ve started doing it it’s been working for me.

“In training we’re always working on defensive set pieces so we’re used to being in a crowded area and I think it’s starting to show in the offensive set pieces too.”
