INTERVIEW | Long-Throw Specialist

Reagan Ogle has backed team-mate Jack Sampson to score more goals after bagging the first hat-trick of his career against Scarborough Athletic at the weekend.

The Port secured progress in the Emirates FA Cup with a convincing win against lower-ranked opposition after overcoming an early setback when they conceded in the sixth minute.

Ogle and Sampson combined to draw Southport level quickly and that gave the home team the lift they needed to book their place in the next round.

“It is brilliant for Sammo to get back on the scoresheet because we know he can do that on a weekly basis and hopefully that’ll be the case now,” Ogle said.

“We saw last season exactly what he is capable of and how important he is to the team. We knew the goals were going to come for him this season and it was only a matter of time before he started netting them away again.”

Ogle played a big role in Sampson’s three goals by assisting two from long throw-ins.

The full-back left the pitch having registered a hat-trick of his own, also proving the delivery for Zehn Mohammed’s goal, meaning his throws provided the route to goal on three separate occasions.

Ogle’s deliveries have become an important asset for the Port over the past year and he admits it is an area the team work on.

“We’ve always done it since I was here last season, it’s always been a threat that we use whether it’s a goal or if the ball causes havoc in the box in general or if it goes out for a corner,” he added.

“Today I just felt like I was putting them in the right areas they were going a lot longer, a lot further into the box and when we’ve got the lads who can finish them.”
