INTERVIEW | Jack’s New Deal

Jack Doyle says he is ‘delighted’ to sign an extended contract to keep him at Southport until 2022.

The left-back, who joined the club last summer, has impressed since arriving at the Pure Stadium.

“I feel at home here,” said the 22-year-old. “Liam Watson has made me enjoy my football again and I get on with the lads really well, it’s a really good group. I’m delighted to be here, everyone is really good with me.”

Doyle is currently out of action with an injury but is looking to return to the field in the very near future.

“I just can’t wait to get back playing. I finished rehab today (Saturday) so I should be back by Wednesday or next week. It has been hard watching the lads from the side, because I want to help them to get the wins that we need.”

With Southport currently in a poor run of form, the left-back wants to be involved to help to stop the rot.

He added: “Hopefully we can put together a few results together and start climbing up the table. You can’t do anything when you’re injured, you’re just itching to get back. I can’t wait to be back in the swing of things.”

Doyle believes the cup game on Wednesday against Pilkington could be a good way to get himself back into the team.

“It’ll be a good way to ease myself back in, I want to get back into training before Wednesday, get 45 minutes in the legs midweek and just build up to Saturday.”

The former Blackburn Rovers defender is certain that Watson’s side can change their recent fortunes and get back to winning ways.”

“Our target is to get into the playoffs and finish as high as we can. We’re in a bad spell but they don’t last forever, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel, and we will get through this, today is gone, just keep positive and we’ll get through it.”
