INTERVIEW | Good To Be Back

Zehn Mohammed says he is pleased to be getting ‘vital’ first-team football opportunities at Southport this season.

The 19-year-old joined the club on loan from Accrington Stanley in the summer and says he’s been made to feel part of the club.

The full-back was in the starting 11 who drew 1-1 with York at Bootham Crescent on Saturday and is pleased to be back with the Port after an initial loan earlier in the year.

“All the lads and the manager have welcomed me, I feel quite positive at the moment,” he said. “I think first team football is vital at an early age, it’s a good experience and better than playing in a development squad.”

“I thought the lads played really well at York, we were on top for most of the game, pressing well and winning our individual battles.”

Mohammed was pleased with the level of effort and determination Liam Watson’s side put into the game.

Despite conceding just before the half time whistle, the 19-year-old was still happy with the performance of the back four.

“It was really positive, we showed that we were ready to work harder more than anything else.”

“As a defender you aim to get the clean sheet, but overall we kept it quite tight to keep them out and didn’t give them many chances.”

Heading into the next game against Blyth Spartans at the Pure Stadium, Mohammed believes that the Port need to keep their current work ethic to reach their potential.

“We need to keep working hard, and if we do that then we can be up there. I think the playoffs are an achievable target for us at the end of the season.”
