CONGRATULATIONS | Morgs’ Memorable Month

The club is delighted to confirm that David Morgan has been named as the Vanarama National League North Player of the Month for his excellent performances throughout October.

In a month which saw the Port win their three league games and move up into the play-off places, the midfielder played an intergral part with a series of stand-out performances and crucial goals.

The Southport captain found the target four times during the month, the first of which was in the 5-0 Emirates FA Cup win away to Farsley Celtic.

And he easily converted that form into the league the following week, as he scored a decisive penalty in a 1-0 win over Brackley Town at the Pure Stadium.

He was at it again in the next league game, as he hit a sweet strike into the corner from just inside the box, helping to inspire a 3-2 win over Hereford.

The 25-year-old has been well-acquainted with wonder goals this season, with a number of well-hit strikes.

He continued that trend in the away trip to Bradford (Park Avenue), as he caught the keeper out with an excellent long range effort to get Southport’s third in a 3-0 win.

It is the second time Morgan has won the league’s monthly award while with the Port, having also collected the prize last November.

“David has been fantastic for us and this award is worthy recognition for an outstanding month,” said manager Liam Watson.

“He is a real team player who works hard, sets the tone for the side and we’ve seen how he’s got an eye for goal.

“David has got a wonderful strike on him and you’d go a long way to see a better strike than the one he scored against Hereford, when he’s shifted it onto his left foot and managed to get curl and dip on his shot.

“David is someone who the fans can relate to and he continues to be a great leader for the football club.”

After getting the award for last month, November didn’t start off too badly either for the 25-year-old as he bagged a hat-trick against Leamington, taking his tally to nine goals for the season.
