Attainment Targets

  1. Further development of 9v9 objectives.
  2. Full understanding of 11-a-side play.
  3. Continued concentration and implementation during play of:
  • The Triangle in team play
  • The Diamond in team play
  • “Third Man running”
  • Team principles of play and their roles when the team is attacking or defending
  • Fully competent with basic skills in cooperative play, i.e., passing, control, shooting and heading; goalkeeper techniques and role
  1. Complete understanding of the rules of the game including the offside rule.
  2. Competent with the role of the goalkeeper including:
  • Catching techniques
  • Positioning in various scenarios
  • Distribution by throwing
  • Distribution by kicking
  1. Continued development of the techniques (basic skills) with greater pressure in a challenging, motivating environment and involve transition.
  2. Competence in the principles of play; and the roles of players when attacking and defending introduced at 7v7. Players should fully understand their particular role on the team in supporting the attack and regaining possession of the ball when defending. The players may require initial guidance in the performance of these roles due to the greater number of players on the field and the increased size of the field.
  3. The players should have a complete understanding of how to interchange roles during the course of play.
  4. Cooperative defending
  • all players participating, even the most advanced players getting “goal side” of opposing players. An understanding of the principles of defence should be displayed so all players understand all of their roles when defending. The role of the players that delay and put pressure on the ball; the players that provide support (cover) and the players that provide balance (width).
  1. Display of competence of skills: passing, dribbling, shooting, ball control, and goalkeeping and heading, both defensively and in attack.
  2. A full understanding of team shape when attacking, and balance when defending.
  3. Players should demonstrate a full understanding of:
  • Movements including running, jumping, throwing and catching, as well as an enhancement in balance, agility and co-ordination, and apply these in a range of activities
  • Team games, along with tactics for attacking and defending
  • Skills using complex movement patterns
  • Use running, jumping, throwing and catching in isolation and in combination
  • Apply cooperative principles suitable for attacking and defending
  • Maintain and enhance flexibility, strength, technique, control and balance
  • Use a range of complex movement patterns
  • Take part in adventurous activity challenges both individually and within a team
  • Compare their performances with previous ones and demonstrate improvement to achieve intrinsic motivation
