Southport Football Club recently attended the opening of Birkdale Tower Lodge in Birkdale to mark the opening of this brand new, high quality residential care home.

Cutting the ribbon to open Birkdale Tower Lodge, along with Southport manager Liam Watson was the Mayor of Sefton Cllr June Burns, Steven Wylie CEO of the Athena Health Care Group and Maxine Nichol, Home Manager.

Other guests included Mayor of West Lancs Cllr Gaynar Owen and her consort Cllr Noel Delaney. Sir Ron Watson Cllr for Birkdale and Cllr Tony Dawson SMBC and Roy Munday from the Sefton Art Club.

The Athena Healthcare Group and Southport Football Club have begun to work together for the benefit of both residents and the wider community.

AHCG understand the connections which the club have in the Southport community and when approached, the club  ‘stepped up to the spot’ to ensure that the AHCG could deliver yet another innovation, as part of their Lifestyle activity programme  in all care lodges.

The club has welcomed residents from Parklands Lodge and Hesketh Park Lodge, both in Southport and given them the opportunity to access football matches and the pre and post-match facilities, along with all other fans on a match day.

Along with match days, the first ‘Sporting Memories’ meeting of 2020 ‘kicks off’ in February. The Club will be hosting a weekly coffee morning for anyone in the community who wishes to come along and join in the sports themed conversations – recent memories as well as memories of the past, no matter how way back are welcome.

Don’t forget to bring along sporting memorabilia, any sport welcome, to stimulate conversation and interest.

AHCG will be supporting to ensure that the meetings are a resounding success.

All welcome!
