Southport travel to Buxton today for the sixth away league game in a row.
The game will not be segregated but the Railway Stand End behind the top goal will be for home supporters only, is the message from our hosts.
Manager Liam Watson is nearing 500 League games in charge at the Club, the game will be his 496th with the upcoming home game against Blyth bringing up the milestone.
It will be the first visit to Buxton since the season we won the NPL title in 1992/93. The sides had been regular opponents between 1978/79 and 1992/93 but it’s only this season, some 30 years on that we have renewed acquaintance.
Probably the most famous meeting of the sides came in the 1990/91 season on the NPL Cup Final at Maine Road which was lively off and on the field, Southport came out on top 4-1 with a brace from Steve Holden and Steve Whitehall.

Buxton are one of the form teams in the league unbeaten in their last four games and the last home game saw them pull off a shock 1-0 win against King’s Lynn. They had been on a bad run and sat in 20th place a month ago but the run has seen a rise up to 17th . Tuesday evening saw a 1-0 away win at Leamington which was the fourth clean sheet in a row.
