Alfreton Town 0 Southport 2

It’s normally a very unhappy hunting ground at The Impact Arean but that was turned on its head this evening with an excellent 2-0 win on the road and our first double of the season.

Goals in the 26th from Owen Lunt his first for the club in only his second game and Tom Moore after 50 minutes sealed the win for a rejuvenated Southport side.

The only disappointment was seeing the outstanding Owen Lunt going off injured in the 35th minute.

The first goal came from a sweeping breakaway with Sonny Hilton feeding Danny Lloyd who played in Lunt who had made up acres of space and he coolly slotted the ball home.

With Alfreton pushing plenty of players forward at all the long throws and set pieces we were able to break with the pace of Lunt and Hilton causing all sorts of problems.

The second goal came from a set piece which given the size of the Alfreton back line was perhaps not the most expected route. Lloyd fired in the free kick and moore was on hand to head home.

We rarely looked like conceding and despite a couple of scares saw the game out relatively comfortably and a win which the excellent travelling faithful deserved after such a poor run. Great support and thank you to everyone who travelled.

We move on to another away game at Radcliffe on Saturday, kick off is at 3pm.
