Preece New Port Boss

Former Premier League striker appointed new manager

Andy Preece has been appointed the new Southport manager. The former Premier League striker at Crystal Palace also played at Blackpool, Bury, Carlisle, Northampton, Wrexham and Stockport County in the Football League. Preece will be at the Merseyrail Community Stadium tonight to see his new charges for the first time in the Molson Coors Lancashire Cup against Blackburn Rovers.

Andy Preece said this morning “I’ve got a fantastic opportunity at a well-run club that I have known for many years. My first match in charge of Worcester was against Southport. I am really looking forward to the challenge. I’ve been in this situation before taking over a club and I expect to succeed. Yes, lots of hard work ahead on and off the pitch with fifteen games to go. It is a big job. I have no fears and expect us to be moving forward. It is a great opportunity to be the manager of Southport Football Club.”

Preece’s first test is on Saturday at the Merseyrail Community Stadium when Vanarama National League promotion hopefuls, John Still’s Dagenham and Redbridge take on the Sandgrounders.

The ex Bury, Worcester, Northwich Victoria and Airbus UK manager takes over the Port reins with fifteen cup finals in a real Vanarama National League survival dogfight. The 49 year old impressed the Board at interview with Chairman Charlie Clapham saying “I know Andy will make a real impact. He has experience at all levels, he wants to manage our club and recognises the club’s ambitions for the future. This is an appointment with more than this season in mind. Andy knows we need immediate improved performances and of course results to safeguard our Vanarama National League status. We need everyone pulling together in the weeks ahead. “
