On a personal level, last season represented a remarkable year for 27-year-old Earl. Having never before scored during his five seasons and three spells at Haig Avenue, the popular defender notched seven goals, each one earning £200 in sponsorship. An imposing presence in the Sandgrounders’ defence, Earl first joined in 2003 having started out at Burnley, also representing Hyde United and Burscough.
