MATCH PREVIEW | Southport v Telford United

There is no escaping the fact that Southport are beginning a month of huge importance when they welcome Telford United to the Merseyrail Community Stadium on Saturday.

The four matches this month are all against teams in the bottom six, including all three sides currently in the relegation zone, and a positive run of results could see Southport pull away from danger.

Telford sit second-bottom of the National League North, three points from safety and five behind Southport. Needless to say, the eight-point gap that would open up with a win on Saturday would make things far more comfortable going in to the business end of the season.

Last time the sides met a last gasp Nathan Lowe penalty salvaged a point for the Sandgrounders, who have only three players remaining from the side who started that game: Mark Halstead, Ross Sykes and Jack Sampson.

Kevin Davies bolstered his squad on Thursday with the loan signings of Mekhi McLeod and Ross Sykes, who returns to the club for a second loan spell this season.

They will be hoping to have a positive impact, and help their new team start off this crucial month with the win that is required.
