Central Defender Aaron Jones Signs
Young defender becomes latest addition after international experience in Norway and New Zealand
Southport have signed 23-year-old central defender Aaron Jones, most recently with Norweigan second division club Raufoss IL. Jones made 14 appearances and scored one goal in the now completed OBOS-ligaen season.
Jones joined Sheffield Wednesday at 13 years old before joining Doncaster Rovers three years later. He is the son of Wolverhampton Wanderers centre-back Peter Jones.
The Chesterfield-born defender headed to New Zealand in 2012 where he made 32 appearances for Hawkes Bay in the New Zealand Premiership, scoring 4 goals, before later transferring to Waitakere United. In 2014, Jones made his Oceania Champions League debut for Waitakere in a 2-0 victory over Kiwi Football Club. Jones also spent time at Napier City Rovers.
Aaron Jones signed for Raufoss IL in Norway in 2014 as defensive cover but quickly established himself in the first team and was granted a contract extension in 2015, after forming part of the team that secured promotion for Raufoss to the second division.
