Bromley 3 Southport 1
Another disappointing afternoon for The Sandgrounders who went down to a 3-1 defeat.
The game started brightly with both sides creating half chances without fully threatening the goal. The match burst into life in the 22nd minute when Jake Wright grabbed his first league goal after a defensive mix up and cooly slotted home to send the travelling fans into raptures. That joy was short lived as Bromley responded almost immediately and debutant Brandon Hanlon latched on to a through ball and fired through the legs of Magnus Norman.
Both sides were struggling on a dreadful pitch which made controlling the ball incredibly difficult and half time was reached with the score at 1-1 which was a fair reflection of the half.
The game changed in four minutes at the start of the second half. The excellent Hanlon was creating havoc in the Southport defence and excellent interplay between him and Turgott saw Turgott fire into the top corner from just inside the area. Almost immediately Bromley added a third goal as Hanlon prodded home a cross under the body of Norman.
Southport plugged away trying to get back into the game and there was no faulting the workrate but they couldn’t find a way through a resolute and experienced Bromley back line Andrai Jones, Liam Nolan and Jamie Allen all went close and a corner count of 8 to 1 in favour of Southport together with a shot count of 11-7 in our favour reflects the game but the important figure is goals scored.
Southport were backed by a vocal contingent of over 100 supporters a number of who had travelled on the Trust In Yellow coach very generously sponsored by Club Director, Nigel Allen.
The Sandgrounders travel to Gateshead next Saturday and a supporters coach will be running to the game.
